How it works
How a remote quote works
Most decorators start with a visit. We start with a schedule of works: a structured description of your rooms, surfaces, condition and finish, which a decorator can price properly from a distance.
The four steps
Describe the job
Rooms and sizes, what is being painted, the condition, the colours, and how to get in. It takes about two minutes for a room, and ten for a house.
See the range
An indicative range appears as you go, itemised room by room, before we ask for any contact details.
A decorator reviews it
Your schedule and photos go to a Haringey decorator. They read it and ask about anything unclear.
Fixed quote or visit
You receive a fixed written quote, or an honest recommendation for a short visit where the job needs one.
When a remote quote works, and when it doesn't
| Verdict | Typical projects | What we will ask for |
|---|---|---|
| Remote quote suitable | Bedrooms, living rooms, flats and houses in reasonable condition; kitchens with timber or painted doors | A photo of each wall, plus room, door and window counts |
| Remote review | Poor or unknown condition, wallpaper, mould, sticking sashes, three-storey stairwells, laminate or wrapped cupboards, anything you weren't sure about | A few extra photos or a short phone video of the areas that matter |
| Property visit recommended | Exteriors of three storeys or more, scaffold, active damp, damaged plaster, very large projects, communal blocks, commercial premises | A short, focused visit at a time you choose. Your answers mean the decorator arrives prepared |
Photos that make a fixed quote possible
- Stand in the doorway and photograph the room, then do the same from the opposite corner
- Take a close-up of anything that worries you: cracks, stains, flaking, mould
- For windows, one photo of each type is enough
- Daylight, lights on, and no need to tidy
Questions
Why don't you just come round and look?
For most rooms, a visit tells a decorator little that good photos and a few measurements can't. It also costs you a morning at home and adds a week to the process. Where a visit genuinely changes the price, we recommend one.
What if the decorator finds something unexpected?
The fixed quote is based on your brief and photos. If something hidden turns up, like blown plaster behind wallpaper or rot under paint, the decorator will show you and agree any change before doing extra work.
Who actually does the work?
An experienced decorator working in Haringey, who reviews your brief and prices it. You deal with them directly on dates, colours and finishes.
Is my information shared?
Only with the decorator who prices your job, and the systems we use to manage quotes. Never with marketing lists. See our privacy notice.
