Tell us about the room. We'll tell you what it costs.
Most decorators need a visit before they will talk about price. For most rooms in Haringey, you shouldn't need one. Describe the job, add a few photos, and see an honest price range before you give us so much as your email address.
Haringey's rooms
A borough of tall ceilings, bay windows and flat conversions.
Haringey was mostly built between the 1870s and 1910s. Two-storey Victorian terraces run up the Harringay Ladder. Larger Edwardian houses and mansion flats line the hills of Crouch End and Muswell Hill. In Noel Park, the cottage terraces were planned as a single estate. Tottenham mixes period streets with post-war estates and new blocks around the Hale.
That history decides what decorating costs here. A 2.9 metre ceiling adds about a fifth to the wall area. Sash windows take three times as long as casements. A tall Ladder hallway is often the single biggest job in the house. So we price by the room you actually have, not a national average.
- Muswell Hill→Edwardian terraces · mansion flats · Fortis Green · Alexandra Park
- Crouch End & Hornsey→Large Victorian houses · conversions · Stroud Green · Crouch Hill
- Harringay & Green Lanes→The Ladder · tall narrow halls · Finsbury Park side
- Highgate→Georgian and Victorian detail · the Haringey side
- Wood Green & Noel Park→Estate cottages · flats above shops · Bounds Green
- Tottenham→Seven Sisters · Bruce Grove · the Hale · West Green · St Ann's
Preparation
Most of what you pay for happens before the first coat.
Two quotes for "painting a bedroom" can differ by hundreds of pounds, because one includes the preparation and one doesn't. Paint forgives almost nothing: every crack, patch and flaking edge shows through a new finish in low winter light. Our quote asks about condition for this reason, and the schedule you receive says exactly which preparation is included.
Walls in a typical Haringey double bedroom: 29.4 m² at standard height, 35.5 m² with a period ceiling.
Second finish coat
An even colour and sheen, cut in cleanly at the ceiling and skirting.
First finish coat
Two coats as standard. A strong colour change can need a third.
Mist coat or primer
For new plaster, bare patches, or stains that would otherwise bleed through.
Fill, sand, caulk
Hairline cracks, old fixings, and gaps where skirting meets wall.
Lime or gypsum plaster
Period walls move. We allow for it rather than pretend they are flat.
Remote quoting
Priced from your sofa, or a visit when it genuinely matters.
We would rather be honest about the limits than promise that everything can be quoted online.
Remote quote suitable
Bedrooms, living rooms, flats, kitchens and bathrooms in reasonable condition. Room sizes plus a photo of each wall are usually enough for a fixed quote.
Remote review
Poor or unknown condition, wallpaper, mould, sticking sashes, tall stairwells or unusual cupboard finishes. A few extra photos or a two-minute video answer what the form can't.
Property visit recommended
Exteriors above two storeys, scaffolding, active damp, damaged plaster, communal blocks and commercial premises. The quote tool tells you straight away, and lets you choose a visit time.
Prices
What typical Haringey jobs cost.
Indicative ranges, including trade paint and materials, worked out with the same rates the quote tool uses. Your own price depends on condition, colour change and access. See the full price guide.

After you send it
What happens next.
Your brief is checked
Rooms, measurements, condition, finish, access and photos arrive as one schedule of works, not a phone message.
A decorator reviews it
An experienced Haringey decorator reads it and looks at your photos. If something is unclear, they ask about that one thing.
Fixed quote or visit
You receive a fixed written quote. Or, if the job genuinely needs one, an offer of a short visit at a time that suits you.
You decide
No pressure and no automated chasing. If you go ahead, you agree dates, colours and finishes directly.
Questions
Before you start.
Can you really price a room without visiting?
For most interior rooms, yes. Room size, ceiling height, what is being painted and the condition of the surfaces explain most of the price. Photos settle the rest. Where a visit genuinely changes the answer — scaffolding, active damp, large communal blocks — we say so before anyone books a date.
Is the online price a fixed quote?
No. It is an indicative range based on what you tell us. A decorator reviews your answers and photos and then gives you a fixed written quote. If what we find on the day differs from the brief, nothing changes without your agreement.
Do prices include paint?
Yes. Ranges include trade-quality paint and materials for the finish you choose. If you would rather supply your own paint, say so in the quote and we will adjust.
Which areas do you cover?
The whole of the London Borough of Haringey — N4, N6, N8, N10, N11, N15, N17 and N22 — including the Haringey side of Highgate, Finsbury Park and Bounds Green.
How soon can you start?
It depends on the season and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates in the quote, including a tenancy changeover date if you have one, and the decorator will confirm availability with the fixed quote.
Know what it costs before anyone visits.
Answer a few questions about your rooms and see an indicative price immediately. A Haringey decorator then confirms a fixed quote — or tells you honestly if it needs a look in person.
